In most pinyin schemes, ㄟ corresponds to [ei]. When there is ㄨ in front of ㄟ, both Hanyu Pinyin and Wade-German Pinyin will abbreviate ㄟ to [i]. However, if ㄨㄟ is not added with the initial consonant, Wade-German Pinyin will not abbreviate it; while Tongyong Pinyin will not do it anyway.
